BBVA Award 2022: Luis Costero Valero

Luis Costero Valero, assistant professor at the Department of Computer Architecture and Automation in the Faculty of Informatics at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), has been awarded the Young Computer Researchers category of the 2022 Research Awards from the Spanish Computer Science Society (SCIE) – BBVA Foundation, for his excellent research in high-performance computing, where he has explored innovative ideas to combine the management of different resources in multi-application scenarios with reinforcement learning techniques.

Luis Costero earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), where he also completed a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering. In his final years of his Bachelor’s degree, he began collaborating with the ArTeCS (Architecture and Technology of Computing Systems) research group, of which he is currently a member. During his Ph.D., he spent six months at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL – Switzerland), where he also completed a year of postdoctoral research. After working at EPFL for a year, he returned as an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Architecture and Automation in the Faculty of Informatics at UCM.
