Towards Unification of HPC and Big Data Paradigms

Prof. Jesús Carretero gave an invited talk on May 7 at UCM.

Traditional solutions for HPC and Big Data have followed separate paths for several years. However, since 2014 there is a great effort to unify both worlds due to the great interest in science and industry to get more information from the data stored in department stores of data, with the purpose of improving their typical solutions by entering data from previous experiences and to create complex processes (presented as workflows) to solve multi-stage problems. All these trends, included under the name “data intensive computing”, are changing both worlds. However, convergence is not easy, since Big Data solutions currently focus mainly on a small part of the problems that a HPC system can face.
